991008 CME Sept Volume Drops 35% to 18 MillionOctober 2, 1999Chicago - The Chicago Mercantile Exchange (CME) said volume last month fell to 18,024,011 contracts, off 35.1% from 27,789,522 contracts traded during September 1998. At month's end, open interest stood at 6,768,643 contracts, down 22.8% from 8,769,751 contracts open at the end of September 1998. Trading in the GLOBEX2 electronic system rose 44.8% to 1,660,071 contracts from the same year-ago month. The E-mini Standard & Poor's 500 futures posted all-time record monthly volume of 1,144,191 contracts, up 155.6% from 447,700 traded in September 1998. Lean hog futures traded a record September turnover of 190,238 contracts, up 15.3% from 164,964 contracts traded a year earlier.
