Floyd "Looks for Buffalo" Hand is an Oglala Sioux spiritual interpreter from Pine Ridge, South Dakota, USA.
The full-blooded decendant of Chief Red Cloud and a direct descendant of the Crazy Horse Band, he has spent the last 28 years teaching Indian spirituality and spreading the messages of the White Buffalo Calf Lady to all four directions of the world.
As a recognized Lakota leader, Looks for Buffalo is often called upon to stand up for the people. In 1975, he defended religious freedom for all Americans. He was  only the third person, after Abraham Lincoln and Chief Red Cloud, to speak in New York City's Cooper Square. More recently, he spoke out against the slaughter of buffalo in Yellowstone National Park.
Today, Looks for Buffalo travels across the world helping people through healing rituals, speaking at gatherings, teaching in universities and prisons, and holding traditional ceremonies.

wolakota.GIF (3566 bytes)These days, if you go to a book store or your local library, you will find dozens of books about Indian culture, history and spirituality. But most of them have been written by authors of European ancestry - from a left-brained European perspective.

Learning Journey on the Red Road is a different book. It is based upon my own teachings and my Indian way of life. It is about the way traditional Indian people live - according to the circle of life, the psychology of life. The teachings and messages contained in these pages come from the right brain. They come from the heart.

Understand that this is not a storybook, with a beginning and an ending. Just as the Sacred White Buffalo teachings are seven separate journeys. Learning Journey on the Red Road is a collection of seven separate spiritual teachings designed for you to learn to align yourself with the circle of life, until the day you leave this world.

Each chapter in this book is based upon your life's process. It should not be misinterpreted as repeating itself. Learning Journey on the Red Road is a book written by an Indian for Indians. The psychology of this way may not apply to the eastern or western way of life, but this is the way of North America. It applies here. And so, my brothers and sisters of European, African or Asian descent, I urge you to use this psychology if you want to attain the holistic way of this island.

But as you read what I have written, remember that spirituality here in North America is not a religion. It is a way of life.

Remember that the laws of this island should not be altered or added onto in any way. If you're going to judge this book by your own values, then I suggest that you don't read any further.
