051116 Vornado Buys Stake in McDonald'sNovember 5, 2005New York - Vornado Realty Trust reported buying a 1.2 percent stake in fast-food giant McDonald's Corp. In a Securities and Exchange Commission document filed Tuesday morning, the real estate investment trust said it had acquired 858,000 McDonald's shares in July, and bought another 14.6 million shares during the September quarter. The investment totaled about $500 million. The company's filing came a day after McDonald's Chief Executive Jim Skinner denied speculation the company might make a significant change to its corporate structure. In September, McDonald's said it was not interested in spinning off its real-estate holdings to boost shareholder value. In premarket activity, Vornado shares fell 10 cents to $80.90, while McDonald's added 95 cents to $32.55.
