051005 Korea May Soon Import U.S. BeefOctober 22, 2005Korea will decide between the end of October and early November whether to resume U.S. beef imports now that Seoul has received its requested information, according to Kim Changseob, director of the animal health division for the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry's livestock bureau. "The livestock quarantine panel is expected to meet…after it has examined all the information related to cases [of bovine spongiform encephalopathy] that Seoul requested from Washington," Kim told the Korea Herald. "It is difficult to predict what the panel could decide at this point, but if the members agree it is safe to resume imports, than high-level government negotiations will begin," said Kim. He noted that it could take up to four months before actual shipments resume.
