050639 Canadian Meat Supplies Start June LowerJune 30, 2005Ottawa - June started with 91,210 metric tons (MT) of meat in cold storage in Canada, down 4% from 95,104 MT in May and up 17% from 78,094 MT in June 2004, according to the latest Statistics Canada report on the sector. The biggest percentage decline for the month was registered by pork, which fell 7.9% to 43,167 MT, though stocks remain 36.5% above year earlier levels. Within the category, stocks of pork bellies dropped 4.6% to 912 MT, up 52.5% from last year. Beef stocks were also down the previous month, slipping 4.2% to 30,570 MT, down 2.2% from last year.
