050629 Texas Beef Industry Facts And FiguresJune 30, 2005Facts and figures from 2004 for the beef industry in Texas, the nation's leading cattle producer: * Texas had 150,000 ranchers, cattlemen and dairy farmers - 15 percent of the nation's beef and dairy producers. * All 254 counties have beef cattle production. * Almost a quarter of the cattle operations had fewer than 100 head, and 13 percent had fewer than 50 head. * Cash receipts for cattle and calves totaled $8 billion, 17 percent of the national total of $47.3 billion. * The industry had an economic impact of $14 billion in Texas. * Texas recorded 13.8 million cattle, 14 percent of the national total.
