041004 Poultry Plant, Workers Settle

October 6, 2004

Morganton, NC - The Case Farms poultry processing plant has settled a claim by three workers that the company denied their right to organize during a work stoppage in February.

The settlement's terms require the company to post notices in prominent positions throughout the plant that tell workers they have the right to form a union to bargain on workers' behalf.

That's what three workers -- Juan Manuel Reggino, Eugenio Marin and Antonio Nicolas -- had asked for in March, when they filed a complaint with the National Labor Relations Board. The complaint and settlement represented the latest chapter in a nearly 10-year struggle between the company and the predominantly Latino work force over wages and working conditions.
