020415 Gwaltney Employees Agree to 5-Year Labor PactApril 6, 2002Smithfield, VA - Gwaltney of Smithfield, Ltd. employees have voted overwhelmingly to ratify a new five-year labor agreement. The agreement covers about 1,700 employees at the company's Smithfield and Portsmouth facilities. The agreement calls for production and maintenance workers to receive a $1,100 lump sum in the first year, followed by raises ranging from 25 cents to 30 cents an hour in each of the next four years. Truck drivers will receive hourly wage increases of 25 cents each year for the next five years, trip rate increases ranging from 3.8% to five percent in each of the next five years and other adjustments.
