011028 Smithfield Foods names C. Larry Pope Pres/COOOctober 20, 2001Smithfield, VA - No. 1 U.S. pork producer Smithfield Foods Inc. said it named a 21-year veteran of the company, C. Larry Pope, president and chief operating officer. The company said Chairman and Chief Executive Joseph Luter would give up the title of president, which he previously held. Before the change, Pope, 47, had been vice president and chief financial officer, the company said.
