010910 Wendy's Responds to Our Nation's CrisisSeptember 14, 2001Columbus, OH - Wendy's Founder Dave Thomas has sent a personal letter to New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani. It states Wendy's U.S. system of company and franchisee restaurants will be making a $1 million donation to the relief fund established to aid the families of police, fire and emergency medical personnel injured or tragically killed during the terrible tragedy this week. Thomas stated in his letter: “We are reminded of the kindness and cooperation you gave us when we were dealing with our personal tragedy in Queens last year. The citizens of New York helped us immensely in our time of great need. Maybe, in some small measure, we can lend a helping hand to the City of New York.” He concluded by saying, “You and the people of New York continue to display great dignity and fortitude in the way you respond to this unthinkable crisis. As we witness the events that unfold hour by hour, our sorrow grows with you.” The Wendy's family has been deeply touched by the enormity of all that has happened. We are providing meals for emergency workers in New York, Washington, D.C. and Somerset, Pa. Many employees also have donated blood or made personal contributions to the relief efforts. Also today, Jack Schuessler, Wendy's chairman and chief executive officer, led employees at the Company's corporate headquarters in Dublin, Ohio in the observance of America's National Day of Prayer and Remembrance. “If there was ever a time for Americans to stand up and be counted, this is it. We must join together during this unthinkable crisis to help our neighbors heal their wounds, and make our beloved nation stronger than ever.” E-mail: sflanagan@sprintmail.com |
