010903 Seaboard Oklahoma Hog Plant Closed After Fire

September 14, 2001

Chicago - The Seaboard Corp. pork plant in Guymon, Oklahoma, remained closed following a small roof fire on Tuesday, but the plant could reopen on Thursday, the company said.

The plant, which has a daily slaughter capacity of 16,000 hogs, was closed near midday Tuesday when a fire broke out on a section of the roof that was being repaired. The fire was confined to the roof and was quickly extinguished, but company officials closed the plant to check for smoke or other damage.

“We didn't run the second shift and we are not running today,” said Gary Reckrodt, Seaboard spokesman. “It looks like there will be a good chance we will be up tomorrow.”
