010805 Fire Kills 12,000 Hogs at Utah FarmAugust 2, 2001Salt Lake City, UT - Police were investigating a fire in southern Utah that killed all 12,000 hogs at the Circle Four Farms and caused up to $5 million in damage. The fire is “under investigation” said Mike Phillips, code enforcement officer for the Cedar City, Utah fire department. Steve Pollman, director of operations at the facility that is owned by Smithfield Foods Inc., said hogs on the site included older sows, litters and replacement sows. Circle Four Farms set up its Utah operation in 1994, employing 450 people.
