010504 Poll: 42% Very Concerned About Food SafetyMay 6, 2001Following are results from a recent poll about food safety by the Pew Research Center for the People & The Press. The poll of 1,202 adults was taken from April 18-22 and has an error margin of plus or minus 3.5 percentage points. When results don't total 100%, the remainder either don't know or refused to answer. In general, how concerned are you about the safety of the food you eat? - Very concerned, 42% - Somewhat concerned, 27% - Only a little concerned, 20% - Not at all concerned, 11% (Concerns were not noticeably different from a poll in 1997) Compared to a year ago, how worried are you that the food you eat may be contaminated? - More worried, 38% - Less worried, 10% - About as worried as a year ago, 51% (Again, results were very similar in 1997) Do you worry the meat supply in the United States could be infected by diseases such as foot-and-mouth, which is currently a problem with the meat supply in Europe? - Yes, worry, 76% - No, don't worry, 18% - Haven't heard of, 6% E-mail: sflanagan@sprintmail.com |
