010218 Label Error Causes Tyson Chicken Wing RecallFebruary 2, 2001Washington - Tyson Foods Inc. voluntarily recalled some 50,000 pounds of chicken wings because they may contain an undeclared allergen, the U.S. Agriculture Department said. Tyson said it recalled some “Tastybird Buffalo Style Wings of Fire” products because it mistakenly failed to list wheat flour, a known allergen, on the product labels. The USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) said no illnesses have been reported due to consumption of the product. The chicken wings were distributed to military installations nationwide and in Asia, the Middle East and Germany. The 40-ounce bags of Tyson products were produced on Jan. 2, 5, 6 and 20. An 11-character date code beginning with “0021BRV,” “0051BRV,” “0061BRV” or “0201BRV,” is printed on the front of the recalled bags. “FSIS ensures the meat and poultry products are safe, wholesome and accurately labeled,” said Margaret Glavin, associate administrator of FSIS. “Consumers who have concerns should return the products to the point of purchase.” E-mail: sflanagan@sprintmail.com |
