001118 Popeyes Chicken Website Sells New Cajun Menu

November 11, 2000

Atlanta, GA - Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits, a division of AFC Enterprises, announced its entry into e-commerce business with the launch of an internet and retail marketplace to sell a new Cajun menu, including Popeyes turkeys at www.popeyes.com . The site arrives just in time for consumers seeking the taste of Louisiana to take advantage of on-line ordering for holiday meals and gifts, corporate gifts and seasonal functions such as tailgate parties.

Visitors to the web site can order fully cooked Cajun Turkey, Oyster- Cornbread Dressing, Corn Casserole, Bananas Foster Bread Pudding and Sweet Potato Biscuits by clicking on and following easy-to-understand instructions as to quantity, price and instructions on how to heat and serve. Visitors may schedule shipping and pay for orders within a secured environment. Following the transaction, customers will receive confirmation of their orders via email.

“Popeyes is leading the Cajun way and bringing one of Popeyes' little known secrets to the public,” said Joe Scafido, Popeyes' vice president of Concept & Menu Development. “We've been offering Cajun Turkeys for special orders in our restaurants during the holidays for several years. Now we're announcing an entire Cajun menu and expect at least half a million hits per month.”

The price for the 10-12 lb. fully cooked Cajun Turkey is $62.95 including a standard shipping time of 2-4 days. Side items start at $5.50 each. A box dinner includes the turkey, 2 lbs. of dressing, 1-1/2 lbs. of corn casserole, 1-1/2 lbs. bread pudding and 8 sweet potato biscuits for $90.95, which includes standard shipping. The Cajun Turkey will also be available at some participating Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits restaurants through the end of the holiday season.

Popeyes' new Cajun menu was created and developed by Popeyes' Chef, Billy Jacob. He has also adapted some of the recipes that consumers may download from the web site.

“We've tried to keep the menu very authentic, using only the finest ingredients and fresh products that have made the Popeyes brand so famous,” said Chef Jacob. “Our goal in offering these new products over the Internet is to provide a quality meal all year around, not just for the holidays. We will be varying the menu somewhat, adding new products and eliminating others as consumers respond.”

A division of AFC Enterprises, Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits is the world's second-largest chicken chain in terms of sales and operates the three-Cajun concepts-Popeyes Chicken & Biscuits, Cajun Kitchen and Popeyes Cajun Cafe. With over $1.2 billion in sales, Popeyes operates more than 1,450 locations in 41 states and 21 countries worldwide.
