001103 Allergy Fears Spur NY Chicken Tenders Recall

November 2, 2000

New York, NY - Over 700,000 pounds of Simmons cooked, frozen chicken tenders are being recalled due to fears that they contain milk products that could trigger allergic reactions in some people.

Two-and-a-half pound bags of Simmons Breaded Chicken Breast Tenders, bearing US Department of Agriculture seal of inspection P-20287, may contain milk products “undeclared on the label,” according to an agency statement.

“We urge consumers to check their refrigerators and freezers,” said Thomas Billy, director of the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS). “If they find any of the products listed above and are allergic to milk products, consumers should not eat them, but return them to the point of purchase.”

According to the USDA, the chicken tenders were produced between early April and late October of this year, and sold in stores nationwide. 'Code dates' listed on each package of the recalled tenders begin with four digits, from 0098 to 0299, inclusive.
