000903 Pork Group Teams up With Mcdonald's for Brat Promo

Chicago, IL - Johnsonville bratwurst will be served this fall in 600 Midwest McDonald's restaurants in a limited promotion, a pork industry group announced.

McDonald's restaurants in Illinois, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota and Wisconsin will take part in the promotion the first two weeks of September and Oct. 6 through Nov. 23, the National Pork Producers Council said.

“The promotion will increase consumer awareness of the versatility and variety of pork,” said Steve Schmeichel, a South Dakota hog producer and chair of the NPPC's Demand Enhancement Committee.

The brat offering capitalises on the success of a similar promotion in the fall of 1999 when 1,800 McDonald's restaurants served more than 800,000 pounds of Johnsonville Brats.
