000874 White Castle Sings Happy Birthday for Food SafetyAugust 31, 2000Columbus, OH - September is National Food Safety Education Month, and White Castle is supporting the efforts of its sponsor, the National Restaurant Association Educational Foundation's International Food Safety Council, by distributing food safety tips via paper sacks in all their restaurants this month. A series of true or false questions on the blue and white decorated sacks challenge consumers on critical food handling issues. The sacks encourage consumers to sing “Happy Birthday” twice while washing hands with soap and hot water to maintain good food handling safety habits. Restaurants across the nation are spreading the word about the sixth annual National Food Safety Education Month. This year's theme is “Be Smart. Keep Foods Apart. Don't Cross-Contaminate.” White Castle's pledge since 1921 has been “Serving the finest products, at the least cost, in the cleanest surroundings, with the most courteous personnel.” The family-owned quick-service hamburger restaurant chain lives by their creed yet today, with consistently high scores in cleanliness and safe food handling. According to Bill Ingram, President and CEO, “We operate our restaurants under the most stringent food safety practices. We exceed established government standards in all our operations, from our restaurants, to our bakeries, to our meat plants.” E-mail: sflanagan@sprintmail.com |
