 991230 Monfort Faces Hefty Safety FinesDecember 20, 1999 Garden City, KS - Monfort meat packing may face a beefy fine for alleged safety violations at its Garden City, Kansas plant. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has cited Monfort for 28 violations and nearly a dozen repeat violations. The fines could reach nearly a quarter-of-a-million-dollars following a June inspection. Some of the reported violations include a lack of adequate stair railings for workers and failure to provide a safe emergency exit. Also cited were several electrical hazards.
