Beginning at 5 a.m., Hatfield Quality Meats will help bring in the new year at the Pennsylvania Convention Center with a breakfast featuring 2,000 pieces of Hatfield Scrapple, eggs, toast, coffee, tea and juice. The company will also display a "scrapple sculpture" in the shape of the Liberty Bell. The festive atmosphere will also include live music, balloons, clowns and other entertainers. Scrapple is a seasoned mixture of ground pork, spices, flour and cornmeal set in a mold. It is fried and served sliced. Scrapple was invented in Eastern Pennsylvania over 200 years ago as a resourceful way for farmers and meat packers to use the leftovers of delicious pork and provide a wholesome protein source for families. People often eat scrapple with butter, maple syrup, apple butter or ketchup. Hatfield Quality Meats makes a variety of scrapple products, including Pennsylvania Dutch Style Scrapple. All varieties are made with the freshest ingredients and contain a special blend of traditional spices. |
