991058 Workers Return to Three Quebec Hog PlantsOctober 16, 1999Quebec City - A court injunction forced about 2000 workers to resume work at three Quebec hog plants of meat processor Olymel, one day after employees walked off the job. We obtained an injunction from the Quebec Superior Court and our working chain is now back to normal since early this morning, company spokesman Real Gauthier said. Union officials said negotiations to renew collective agreements at the three Olymel plants would start next Friday. Olymel has two abattoirs at Vallee-Jonction near the provincial capital of Quebec City and at Princeville, halfway between Montreal and Quebec City, and a hog processing plant at St. Simon, east of Montreal. Olymel slaughters between 45,000 and 50,000 hogs a week at the two abattoirs and processes mainly pork and poultry. Olymel, based in Ste. Hyacinthe just east of Montreal, has some 7,000 employees in Quebec.
