991014 Burger King Rolls Out New Chicken SandwichOctober 1, 1999Miami, FL - Burger King Corporation announced that it permanently added a new Chicken Club Sandwich to its menu nationwide, beginning October 3. This is the first new product introduction since the Chick'n Crisp introduction to the Great Taste Menu in August, 1998. The new sandwich features lettuce, tomato, bacon, mayonnaise and a 3.75 oz. crispy, all white meat chicken patty served on a hoagie-style sesame seed bun. "This sandwich has earned exceedingly high marks in repeated consumer tests," said Rob Calderin, vice president, USA Marketing for Burger King Corporation. "Customers kept describing it in one word...'craveable.' We are confident that this great tasting sandwich will earn that 'craveable' reputation quickly." Consumers got a sneak peak at what was coming to BURGER KING restaurants through a series of "teaser" print ads that have appeared this week in USA TODAY. "Top secret" satellite photos of stripped tomato and lettuce fields along with truck convoys and train caravans of bacon and chicken, similar to the images featured in the company's teaser television commercials, were placed in the national newspaper to spark readers' curiosity about this new sandwich. "While burger consumption continues to increase in the U.S., so does chicken," Calderin said. "This statistic is telling us that consumers want choices since they are eating out more often. The New Chicken Club gives them yet another reason to visit our BURGER KING restaurants." The new Chicken Club sandwich will be featured in restaurants along with the company's Halloween promotion of Silly Slammers, to be available in BURGER KING BIG KIDS MEALS through October 31.
