990757 Dearborn Sausage Company Recalls HamsJuly 30, 1999Dearborn, MI - The Dearborn Sausage Co., a processor and distributor of pork and beef products, is voluntarily recalling 130 pounds of ham products that may be contaminated with the bacteria listeria monocytogenes. The products being recalled are whole and half spiral sliced hams with glaze packet and red netting produced July 20, 1999 with the Dearborn brand label. The lot numbers are H56194B (whole); G76196A (half) and H56194A (half). The lot number and Establishment Number 100002 appear on the product packaging. The recall is the result of the USDA taking a product sample from the company's slicing room that tested positive for the bacteria. Upon being informed of the sample results, the company made the decision to recall all products processed in the slicing room on the day the sample was taken. None of the product lot from which the sample was taken was shipped, and all remaining product but the 130 pounds subject to this recall announcement has been recovered from the company's wholesale customers. Dearborn Sausage Co. is urging anyone who may have purchased any of the specified items to call the company directly at 313-842-2375, ext. 3035. Dearborn Sausage will make arrangements to pick up the products and provide customers with a refund. We have always cooperated in every possible way with the USDA to ensure the public that our facility meets the highest health standards for meat processing, said Todd Meier, vice president of the company. This is the first time any product has been recalled by the family-owned and operated business that has been supplying meat products to the Detroit area for more than 50 years, Meier added.
