990562 White Castle Donates Hamburgers to Local CharitiesMay 27, 1999Chicago - As a part of White Castle's national Fastest Griddle Contest the fast food chain will donate 500 hamburgers to 4 local United Way charities. These charities include the Domestic Violence for battered women and children, Aunt Martha's Youth Center, Community Center Youth Agency, and, Together We Cope. On Thursday, May 27th sixteen of Chicago's fastest White Castle employees will gather in stiff competition with each other to earn the right to be called Chicago's fastest. The site of the contest is 11053 S. Southwestern Highway in Palos Hills and will be held from 5 to 9 p.m. Food and beverages will be provided to those attending. The local event is being held to determine which employee from the Chicagoland Area will go on to compete with 11 other White Castle employees from around the country in the national contest to be held in Columbus, Ohio where the company headquarters are located. White Castle System, Inc. opened its doors in Wichita, Kansas in 1921. The company expanded to Chicago in 1929 and currently serves up that one-of-a-kind steam-grilled taste at 57 Chicago restaurants and employs approximately 2,000 people in the area.
