990262 IBP Recalls 10,000 Pounds of Meat for GlassFebruary 19, 1999Washington - IBP Inc. earlier this month recalled 10,000 pounds of ground beef after customers found glass particles in meat, according to the U.S. Agriculture of Department. The meat was distributed in Michigan, Indiana, Ohio and Florida. "While the company is investigating a handful of calls from consumers with minor health concerns, there have been no confirmed reports of injuries or illnesses related to the finding," IBP said. The meat, 75% Lean Fine Ground Beef, was produced on January 18 during one hour of production at IBP's Finney County, Kansas, plant. IBP has already recovered almost half of the meat recalled, the company said. The Dakota City, Nebraska-based meat processor believes the rest was either consumed or thrown away. The meat was sold to fewer than 30 stores, which likely further processed or repackaged the meat for sale. The glass particles found in the meat were about the size of a pinhead.
