Vancouver, British Columbia - Fletcher's Fine Foods Ltd. announced that it has reached an agreement in principle with the Province of Alberta to acquire a 27 acre site in Edmonton, Alberta.
Immediately after the purchase, Fletcher's will begin construction of a state of the art bacon plant employing about 150 people and capable of producing 1,000,000 pounds of bacon per week.
“This new facility, combined with the recent expansion of our Red Deer, Alberta hog processing plant, will provide us with the production capacity and high quality materials needed to grow our branded premium bacon business in Canada and the United States,” said Fred Knoedler, President and CEO. “Furthermore, we are very excited about future prospects for expanding the Edmonton facility to include production of other branded processed products,” added Mr. Knoedler.
“Our decision to invest in Alberta in general and the City of Edmonton in particular was based, in large part, on the world class services and competitive infrastructure that has been developed by the governments of the Province of Alberta and the City of Edmonton,” said Fred Knoedler.
“This investment moves us closer to our goal of being the leading marketer and manufacturer of branded processed pork products in Western Canada and the Western U.S.” said Don Loewen, Chairman. “High quality branded products produced at the Edmonton plant will be sold to markets throughout the Pacific Rim including Canada, the United States and Japan,” added Mr. Loewen.
Fletcher's has been engaged in the food processing business since 1917 and has manufacturing facilities in Alberta, British Columbia, Oregon, Saskatchewan and Washington.
