980926 McDonald's Testing "McBagels," & Pizza Hut Drive-Thru

September 15, 1998

Portland, ME - McDonald's Corp. is testing a bagel sandwich called the McBagel and is considering rolling out the new product to its 2,500 units in the Northeast U.S. this fall.

The McBagel sandwiches are made on bagels with egg and cheese, and a choice of bacon or steak. McDonald's is also testing McVeggie vegetarian burgers in New York City's Greenwich Village section.

Pizza Hut's largest franchisee, NPC International, is now offering drive- thru service at four restaurants in Springfield, Mo. The limited-menu service promises Personal Pan pizza meals in two minutes or less. The meals sell for $2.99 and include a beverage and salad. NPC, which operates 658 Pizza Huts in 24 states, is also adding carryout windows to all its new units.
