Washington - The First Step to Food Safety, “Keep it Clean,” is the theme of National Food Safety Education Month this September. The theme will be promoted by the National Cattlemen's Beef Association (NCBA) through full-page advertisements in USA Today throughout September.
National Food Safety Education Month is sponsored by the International Food Safety Council, a restaurant and food industry coalition including NCBA to promote safe food handling and preparation.
The advertisements, which are scheduled to appear Sept. 8, 16, 21 and 30, include simple steps to help consumers keep foods safe. For instance, the ad says that every time you wash your hands, sing “Happy Birthday” twice to make sure you wash long enough. Consumers will also be encouraged to call 1-800-368- 3138 for a free copy of “Plating it Safe,” a market-to-mealtime checklist to keep foods safe.
