Sioux Falls, SD - South Dakota's red meat production is decreasing. Commercial production totaled 85-Million pounds during July. According to South Dakota's U-S-D-A, the figures showed an increase of eight-percent compared to June of this year, BUT a decrease compared to this time last year. Also down from a year ago, pork, beef, sheep and lamb production. The total number of cattle slaughtered during July was more than 364-thousand. That's a drop of almost 66- thousand from last year.
