Luverne, MN - A meat packing company that planned to expand in the former IBP plant in Luverne has changed its mind. Ellison Meat of Pipestone would have employed 150 people to process beef carcasses for retail sale. But Luverne Mayor Bill Weber says Ellison backed out because it was NOT able to meet a September start-up deadline because of the time needed to reach an agreement with the city. Weber says the city is still looking for a buyer for the plant. He says turkey processor Jennie O. Foods has shown interest in the past.
