980752 Pennsylvania Restricts Cattle Entry

Harrisburg, PA - An outbreak of an animal virus in the Southwestern US has prompted the Pennsylvania Agriculture Department to place restrictions on cattle, horses and other animal entering the commonwealth. Ag Secretary Samuel Hayes says all domestic animals coming into Pennsylvania must now have an official certificate of veterinary inspection, to demonstrate they are disease- free. The precautionary action is being taken following an outbreak of vesicular stomatitis in three other states. Hayes says the disease primarily effects horses... and there has never been a diagnosed case in Pennsylvania. But any outbreak could have a major effect on the state's animal industry.
