980723 New York State Warns of E. Coli in Brooklyn Meat

July 6, 1998

Albany, NY - The state Agriculture Commission is warning Brooklynites not to eat ground beef sold in a neighborhood supermarket. Commissioner Donald Davidsen says the meat sold in the “A Supermarket” on Marcy Avenue is contaminated with e. coli bacteria and mixed with pork and chicken products. The meat in question is marked for sale by July 4. Davidsen says customers should throw the meat out or return it for a refund. The bacteria can be deadly, but so far no illnesses have been reported.
