Broadway,VA - WLR Foods, Inc. President and Chief Executive Officer James L. Keeler announced that Kathleen W. Lawrence has joined the company as Director of Corporate Communication. In 1996, Governor George Allen appointed Mrs. Lawrence Director of Virginia's Department of Conservation and Recreation, the state agency responsible for restoring and conserving Virginia's natural resources. She previously served as Director of the Chesapeake Bay Local Assistance Department, the state agency responsible for land use and development policy for the Virginia cities, towns and counties that drain into the Chesapeake Bay. In the federal government, she served as Deputy Assistant Secretary at the US Department of Commerce and served the US Department of Agriculture as Deputy Director of Rural Development and Deputy Under Secretary and Under Secretary for Small Community and Rural Development.
In addition to her extensive experience in state and federal government, Mrs. Lawrence's private sector experience includes representing rural electric cooperatives, investment banks, and insurance companies in Washington.
