Bronx, NY - On July 4, 1776, our forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence, and celebrated their newfound freedom with feasts of boiled fish, beefsteak, hot bread, cheese and salted fish, beef and pork. My, how things have changed!
More than two hundred and twenty years later, the Fourth of July now has the distinction of being the number one holiday for eating hot dogs, according to the Hebrew National Hot Dog Index. The new survey, sponsored by Hebrew National, polled Americans on their hot dog eating habits.
More than 75 percent of those surveyed responded that they were more likely to eat hot dogs on this day than on any other summertime holiday. One in four Americans reported that they would most likely eat a hot dog on Memorial Day, Father's Day or Labor Day.

"We had no doubt about the popularity of hot dogs," said Steven Silk, president, Hebrew National. "The Hebrew National Hot Dog Index proves that the hot dog is truly the all-American food."
