Atlanta - Georgia Commissioner of Agriculture Tommy Irvin announced today that several agricultural facilities were damaged by last night's storms.
The most severe damage occurred at a chicken house in Lumpkin County where three inches of rain and a backed up culvert caused approximately 34,000 chicks to drown. Georgia Department of Agriculture employees are assisting with the disposal of the chicks, according to Commissioner Irvin.
Two chicken houses in Cherokee County and another in Murray County that were not in use sustained roof damage. In both cases the damage was minimal.
There were further reports of damage to barns and fences in Chatooga, Catoosa, Walker, Floyd and Dade counties. None of the counties reported severe damage or losses of any kind.
