Burlington, Ontario - In response to the Ontario Labour Relations Board's decision to dismiss the application for an interim injunction to delay the implementation of a new collective agreement at its pork processing plant in Burlington, Ontario, Maple Leaf Meats issued the following statement:
"The Ontario Labour Relations Board has dismissed the interim application. The main application remains. We will be having discussions with the union to determine if they will pursue the application or if they will sign the collective agreement voted upon by the membership on March 6.
It is our hope that the union will sign the agreement which will allow the company to proceed with recalling employees to work and mailing the agreed upon lump sum payments. Until the agreement is signed by the union we cannot proceed. We hope this will be resolved quickly so that we may proceed with re-opening the plant."
