Founder & Director, Conservative Society for Action; 2008-Present
Founder of the Conservative Society for Action, a grassroots political action organization headquartered in Suffolk County, New York. The CSA has become active in dozens of political campaigns and has lobbied for dozens of issues such as New York State's 2% Tax Cap legislation.
The organization consists of thousands of individual volunteers dedicated to smaller government, reduced taxes, accountability and free enterprise. CSA was responsible for the nation's first town hall protest when it confronted congressman Tim Bishop in June of 2009. Video of this action went viral and lead to a nationwide movement to oppose the
National Healthcare Bill (ObamaCare) and Cap and Trade legislation.
The CSA has been involved in many successful political campaigns including those of Dean Murray, Lee Zelden, Jack Martins, Trish Bergan, Steve Flotteron, Tom Croci, John Cochrane, Gene Cook, and others.
Owner/Operator, SPC Marketing Company and Stevens Publishing Company, 1976-Present
Owner and operator of two affiliated companies that offer publishing, advertising and marketing services to a wide variety for clients and
organizations.
Stevens Publishing Company publishes a number of trade publications for various industries. Annual print directories include
the American Institute of Architects Long Island Reference Directory; Financial Planning Association Annual Directories distributed in a number of states; The Foodservice Industry Suppliers Guide; and the Who's Who in Meat Annual Directory.
SPC operated a home computer software company in the mid-1980s and
continues to market consulting services to dozens of companies.
SPC Marketing Company formed the Napkin Pitch Media company in 2007 as a means to offer advertising agency services to small and medium sized companies.
Federal Aviation Administration, Internal Communications Office, 1984-1987
Worked in the office of the regional director of the FAA's Eastern Region covering the states of Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia. Directed the region's
Internal Communications Division with primary responsibility for employee relations.
Acted as the Regional Director's liaison with hundreds of FAA facilities, their directors and employees. Designed methods to mitigate serious employer-employee mistrust. Set up and executed dozens of facility meetings and designed and
distributed publications, presentations and videos addressing productivity and accountability for employees and management.
Designed a bottom-up flow of information from the individual facility level to the regional director's office. Conducted weekly briefings for the director.
Political & Governmental Activities:
- Served as Republican Party committeeman for a
total of twenty two years in Brightwaters and in West Islip.
- Served as School Board member for West Islip
UFSD for three years and chared the Finance Committee. Instituted zero-based budgeting methods that stabilized taxes at annual increases under 2%. Presided over the closing and sale of a school building and creation of a "gifted & talented" program at no additional cost to the
district. Spent a decade lobbying in Albany for a variety of
school-based fiscal issues.
- Member of TaxPAC, a tax stabilization organization that ran school board campaigns and issued dozens of publications that lobbied for many issues including reductions in state
education mandates and equalized aid for education. In an effort to
increase voter turnout, an initiative whereby school budget
elections occurred statewide on the same day was a major success.
Assisted in the successful election of more than a dozen candidates in numerous school districts.
- Assisted as a volunteer in many political
campaigns including John Cochrane Sr. for Assembly; Angie Carpenter for Suffolk Legislature, Rick Lazio for Suffolk
Legislature (a seat I screened for myself), Paul Aniboli for Congress; Gary Berntsen for U.S.
Senate (campaign manager), Jack Martins and Lee Zelden for NYS Senate; Dean Murray for
Assembly, etc.
- Worked as a supporter of Ronald Reagan while
publishing trade magazines and newsletters. Advocated and lobbied for endorsements of Reagan by business publications during
his campaign. Personally interviewed and endorsed Reagan myself.
- Worked in the Buchanan for President New Hampshire primary campaign in 1992 as a advance man in charge of analyzing Clinton campaign events.
- Met with hundreds of business and civic leaders in the last three years as
Director of the Conservative Society for Action and developed a keen awareness of issues affecting our business community.
